Steam OS; game changer?
So, for those of you not aware, Steam has been very busy over the past several years attempting to take a huge leap forward in what gaming is to be for entertainment. Ever wonder why they haven’t released a Half Life 3 or a Left 4 Dead 3? My guess is because they have been a little preoccupied with a little something known as the Steam OS.
Now, there are multiple articles and videos dedicated exclusively to the new Steam OS and it’s Steam Box and Steam Controller and everything Steam . . . I’m not going to recreate those articles. Mainly because they do a far more impressive job than I ever could. But to boil it down (get it? Steam? Boil? I’ll be here all week.), it basically is the fact that Steam has created their own console that is supposed to finally make PC gaming part of a house’s entertainment. You know, that thing that Sony and
Microsoft have been trying to cram down our throats for years. Well, Steam might just pull it off based off of what I have seen so far.
They actually know gaming and are attempting to build a solid business structure around that. Whereas Sony and Microsoft have the business structure and are trying to incorporate gaming into it. And I’m not saying that XBox Live has been a complete failure because it hasn’t, but neither Sony nor Microsoft have been able to make a success out of what they were trying to accomplish.
But now here comes Steam. And, boy, do they look like they are coming in full throttle. But enough of that, take a look at their home page and see the ideas that they are trying accomplish. Read how they have built their OS, what they are innovating on the gaming platform and controller and then tell me . . . who might win on this eventually?
